Here at DiRAD Technologies, we understand that we are a company led by a team full of interesting and experienced leaders. Getting to know each one of them better is an honor. That’s why we do a Company Spotlight each month. This month we’re highlighting DiRAD team member, Addison Southwick!

How long have you been at DiRAD?

I started at DiRAD in November 2019, right before the pandemic.

What is your favorite thing about technology?

Favorite thing? It’s a bit vague, but I’d have to say I like that it enables us to do things we couldn’t do otherwise.

What inspired you to get into your field?

My dad is my inspiration. He introduced me to computers when I was younger and mentored me for years. I worked with him at my first IT job and he built my foundation for technical understanding and troubleshooting.

What is your favorite piece of technology?

I’d have to say my mobile phone, since it’s such a versatile device. To me, the technology readily available for most people is a benchmark of technological advances. I’m fascinated by the kinds of shapes (watches, glasses, etc.) this will take in the future.

What are some of your favorite hobbies?

I do like to make a hobby out of technology, but probably bigger than that at this point is board games. I like board games with complex rules and lots of pieces. The more pieces the better. That doesn’t mean I’m good at them. I like to annoy my wife by taking a long time and narrating my thought process aloud on my turns.

What word would you use to describe the company culture at DiRAD?

It sounds cliche, but “friendly” is probably the word. I was welcomed at DiRAD when I started and since then I’ve welcomed new people who have then welcomed more new people. It really is a good place to be.

Tell us a little about your life outside of work.

I’ve got a few projects going on outside of work. My wife and I have been spending the last few weeks getting our outdoor and gardens ready. We have a couple small greenhouses inside preparing all our herbs and vegetables. Along with our two dogs helping, we’ve been kept pretty busy.

What’s your favorite quote?

I’m not one for having a list of favorites, but here’s one I think about a lot: “Good decisions come from experience. Experience comes from bad decisions.” My grandparents had that on the wall in their bathroom when I was growing up. It was right next to: “If you sprinkle when you tinkle, be a sweetie and wipe the seatie.”
