DiRAD is woman-owned and proud of it. We’re proud of all the incredible women who help make what we do possible. In March’s Company Spotlight, we wanted to highlight one of those talented individuals who make our company special.

This month’s Company Spotlight is focused on Annie Gartelman!

How long have you been at DiRAD?

14 years

What is your favorite thing about technology?

I love how much easier it is to stay in contact with friends and family. I’m old enough to remember life with only one phone in the house. It was attached to the wall and there was no voicemail. When the phone rang, you had no idea who was on the other end; and if you weren’t home, you’d never know someone had tried to reach you. Being able to receive and send a silly meme or a current photo, and have short or long conversations (via voice or text) whenever and wherever you want is great.

What inspired you to get into your field?

I followed a pretty windy path to arrive here. QA, one of my primary duties, suits me. I like making sure our systems work as our clients desire.

What is your favorite piece of technology?

That would be my phone, or I should say ‘mobile device.’ Walking around with a small computer in your pocket is useful in endless ways: It can give you directions, restaurant recommendations, news reports, weather forecasts, and answer almost any question you have – and it makes phone calls too!

How important do you think it is to have more women in tech?

Women make up 51% of the population, so it just makes sense to have them in tech. I think tech (and all fields) should be as diverse and inclusive as possible.

What are some of your favorite hobbies?

I love to travel! I haven’t done much traveling in the last two years due to COVID, and I’m hoping that will change soon. I’ve been fortunate enough to travel to Cambodia, Italy, France, Belgium, England, Ireland, Honduras, Belize and Mexico, as well as to many parts of the U.S. I like to say ‘I haven’t been everywhere, but it’s on my list!’

What word would you use to describe the company culture at DiRAD?

If I can use just one word, I’d say the company culture here is supportive. I think DiRAD is great at making their employees feel valued and appreciated.

Tell us something fun about your workspace.

We have two office cats, Max and Toby. They’re 13 years old and seem more playful every day. We have toys and cat beds – plus lots of boxes and packing paper, which they love! – strewn about the office. They make me smile all the time, and I can’t imagine DiRAD without them!

What’s your favorite quote?

Always try to be nice; never fail to be kind.
